Reverend Dr. Walter J Butts, “The Artist”
Rev. Dr. Walter J Butts, is affectionately known as “The Big Man Of Gospel Music.” He was blessed by God at an early age to become a singer, musician and composer. These gifts and talents paved the way for him to be granted many opportunities to share the stage with a variety of notable artists such as Albertina Walker, The Mighty Clouds Of Joy, Dorothy Norwood, Jesse Dixon, DeLois Barrett Campbell & The Barrett Sisters, Rev. Milton Brunson & The Thompson Community Singers, Rev. Clay Evans and many more.
Rev. Butts received national exposure for his musical talents when he was promoted as a lead guest artist on the platform of the National Baptist USA’s first recording. This opportunity landed him national recognition for his leading song, “Jesus Keep Me Near The Cross.” It was the top hit song on the album. He was blessed to advance his musical resume even further with two recorded songs on the Jesse Dixon album, “Lord I Need A Breakthrough," and “Lord I Lift My Spirit To You,” which became popular throughout the South and part of the Midwest. This success was followed by his epic release of two albums, “Get High On Jesus,” and “You Took Away The Pain.”
Rev. Butt’s artist’s portfolio repository includes performances on the main stage numerous of times at the J. Pritzker Pavilion in the Millennium Park at the Chicago Gospel Fest, he was also one of the featured artists along with The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Evangelist Dorothy Norwood at the Civic Auditorium in Montgomery, AL. Rev. Butts performed twice at the Acadome Stadium for the Alabama State Gospel Fest along with Paul Porter and other well known artists. After preaching and singing in Montgomery’s City-Wide Revival, Walter J Butts was honored by a City Councilman who bestowed upon him the “Keys To The City,” of Montgomery, AL.
